Door Swings Both Ways
by PamFord Davis

I'm not a hermit but do admit to being a Herman's Hermits fan. I guess that dates me. In the mid 1960's I sang along with "Mrs. Brown, You Have a Lovely Daughter," saw the group in concert at Syracuse's War Memorial Stadium, and today follow group leader Peter Noone on facebook. I'm not a fanatic; I just enjoy the sing along tunes. The title of another one of those tunes was, "This Door Swings Both Ways."

An open door can swing both ways, from advantageous opportunity-to entrance-way of adversaries; this the Apostle Paul knew by experience. "I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16:7b-8 RSV)." Through prayer, I seek advantageous outreach opportunities and resist the adversary's attacks.
