Constantly Relearning
by Ramona Cook

As I live and grow,
"Old," as some would say,
I've come to realize things
in a brand new way.
I think I know why
folks, full of numbers of days,
seem so darn Vanilla.
In time you realize
that gender, color, or size
has nothing to do
with anything.
It matters not how hard
you tried, or maybe didn't,
the view of you is
one and the same;
whatever went wrong,
you are to blame!
That is, IF
you get credit for anything.

"Youth is wasted on the young"
I used to hear the old folks say.
I thought it was just more
of their rumblings, faulty
understanding, stumbling.
"Things are different today!"
to myself I'd say,
"They just don't understand;
today, the young are smarter than
were they in their day."
Oh YES,
Youth IS wasted on the young,
but it doesn't have to be.
If only they would listen up
to the folks with some history.

There's really not a lot that has changed
that matters in the scheme of things.
The trees still grow up from the ground,
the sky is blue, the Earth is round.
Babies are born in the same old way,
and there's twenty-four hours
in everyday.
It's just a prank played by our enemy on the mind, using the same old tricks
to waste each person's life and time.
Around the Mountain forty years!
Mount Sinai, that is,
finding that what God says IS true, and
You don't break the Laws,.. they break you.
