My First Hero
by Richard L. Provencher

I thought he was my first
hero. A friend wearing
the latest fad. His parents
could afford nifty items
for the scene. Especially
during high school days
stuff of unnecessary need.

Desert boots & white bucks
were his to wear. I wished
I had such a pair. But my
parents could not afford them.
Nor could other male pals.

So popular with all the girls
and other friends surrounding.
Then suddenly passed away
at an age too early for anyone.
He was missed by so many.

I learned in later life there is
only one hero and that is Jesus.

Richard enjoys writing poems; many of which have been published in Print and Online. He and his wife, Esther are also co-authors of stories and a print novel. They are "born again" Christians and very busy in their church, Abundant Life Victory International, in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia.
