The Priceless Egg
by Steve Countryman Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Romans 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." The peace of God that passes all understanding is what every human being desires in their life. What is so amazing is what we do with that peace once we have it. Like a priceless Faberge egg, this egg represents God's perfect peace is what came to mind in prayer. This egg is not much bigger than the average chicken egg. It can be held in one hand and is every bit as fragile as a regular chicken egg, if dropped it will break. Now you have been given this egg of peace as a gift from God. You are in charge of its care, use and protection. There is nothing that compares to the calmness and rest that is found in God's peace. It will quiet the troubled soul! There are several things that can cause you to loose your peace. It can happen over the little things in our every day lives like going to and from work, trying to get the kids out the door for school or misplacing your car keys. There are thousands of varieties of problems that can arise that will cost you your peace. You are in charge of protecting your peace. Remember that God's peace is so precious and sought after that it needs to be cherished and protected as a priceless egg. When trivial things happen we quickly forget about God's gift of peace. That is like you taking the egg in your hand and start tossing it up in the air and catching it in your other hand. Over and over you do this with the egg going higher and higher each time. Then while tossing it up you become distracted and the egg comes down, misses you hand and hit's the ground shattering. Your carelessness and lackadaisical attitude towards the priceless egg has caused it to be broken. Or how about when your anger gets the best of you and you're ready to take someone's head off. That is like taking the priceless egg that you are carefully holding and throwing it at that person. You have now thrown away God's gift of peace for the sake of an fight or argument. Is being right at any cost worth loosing God's peace? How often have you lost God's peace? Did your frustration and temper cause you to loose it? I have to admit that I have lost it that way too often then I feel so stupid for trading away that which is priceless for a moment of foolish anger. Attitude towards your egg matters. If you treat it as a casual thing or a disposable item you risk missing out on using God's peace when you really need it! Shining God's peace to those around you when others loose theirs is you being God's witness to the world that your God sustains you! How can you find God's peace or get it back? It is found in His Word! You must believe that God's peace is for you to have, hold and cherish as the Holy Spirit reveals it to you. There is no doubt when you have it for your face will shine it to others. Even to those who will try to help you loose it. Hold it tightly and remember that it is a gift from God to you! So next time when you start to get upset, loose your cool, fly off the handle, hit the ceiling or blow your top stop and think is this worth loosing God's peace over?
