Now That You Are Gone
by Shakera Reid-Stewart

As the minutes run into hours, and hours run into days,
I remember your excellent spirit in so many different ways.
The grief envelops my spirit; I have cried a million tears,
But the sorrow that surrounds me will endure throughout the years.
Oh how I have loved you and love you still right now,
How can I forget the one to whom I made my special vow?
The vow to love and cherish, until my dying day,
The part where you would leave me first, the Pastor forgot to say.

Those around me try to cheer me, but words can't relieve my pain,
The emptiness and loneliness seem to be driving me insane.
Will I ever find peace in the fact that you're in a better place?
Will I ever know the joy of life and feel sunshine on my face?
You were my heart, my soul, my all, the center of my life,
You've consumed my very being since the day I became your wife.
How do they expect me to forget your hugs, your smile, and your laugh?
How could I ever turn my back on the one who always stood up on my behalf?

I fight against all comfort, in fear that our memories will fade,
I fight against encouraging words, and positive comments that are made.
One day I'll try to remember the outline of your face
One day I'll try to remember your presence in this place.
One day I'll fill that horrible void that grants me sleepless nights
One day I'll turn around and see you're no longer in my sights.
But every now and then I'll look to the heavens above,
I'll see the sign that will remind me of our precious, undying love.
