Holy Day Bells
by PamFord Davis

Jingle Bells, Sleigh Bells Ring, Silver Bells, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day....

Many of our popular Christmas songs refer to bells in the title or lyrics. Bells ring out a glorious song of the Redeemer child's birth. Aaron, as priest, entered the Temple sanctuary wearing bells upon his garment. Long before we celebrated with holiday bells, God commanded priests to wear holy bells.

"Make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn on its lower hem and all around it. Put gold bells between them all the way around, [so that] gold bells and pomegranates alternate around the lower hem of the robe. The robe must be [worn by] Aaron whenever he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he enters the sanctuary before the LORD and when he exits, so that he does not die (Exodus 28:33-35 HCS)."
