Vine Covered Shack
by Marilyn Schnepp

On the south side of town,
In a vine covered shack
Lived an old man named Dixon
Whom they called Uncle Jack..

"No money for paint",
The old man once said,
So he covered his castle
With green vines instead!

The roof was patched
And his floors were bare,
But he thought himself rich
Cause he owned a good chair!

He'd sit there alone
In his rocker each night
And read his Bible
By the candlelight..

One night he was reading
About Mansions Up There,
When he started to nod...
Falling asleep in his chair.

^^^
Suddenly he was standing
On a street paved with gold
In front of a mansion
That was a delight to behold!

The windows were Diamonds
And trimmed in white Pearls;
And a roof made of Stardust
With Rainbow- type swirls!

And the sign on the door!
...Wow! What a surprise!
He thought it said "Dixon"
So he blinked his eyes!

^^^
Opening his eyes
He was now fully aware..
So he bowed his head
And sent up this prayer:

"Thank you, Dear Lord,
For that Mansion so fine!
But some vines on the roof
Would be simply divine!"
