Faint Echoes of Their Moonlit Cries
by Caitlynn Lowe

Come read the tale, long forgotten,
Of star-crossed love, both pure and strong.
None recall how 'twas begotten
Nor when the romance did go wrong.
Yet few, however, shall forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

A maiden of a wingd race,
A young prince who dwelled in the sea,
Two sweethearts with no meeting place;
This love and pain their destiny.
So hearken and do not forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

Then one night a plea was spoken
Two hearts, one prayer, one starry dream
For unseen chains to be broken,
And love's soft spark be lit agleam.
But mid their wish we can't forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

In answer to their lonely bid
A freezing breeze took o'er the spot,
Making that which was once forbid
Iced over in one simple shot.
Winter starlight makes one forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

Upon the platform they embraced,
But their delight was soon cut short.
Scattered feathers, hopes laid to waste
Their bliss jealous rivals did thwart.
'Twas then it happened, none forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

As she lie dying in his grip,
One final miracle ensued.
The ice encased this final snip
Of their love's tale, forever viewed.
All done so none would dare forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.

"Could this be true?" I hear you ask.
On that matter I'll stay silent.
Instead, in winter's starlight bask
Their true love still bears testament.
Be soundless and you shan't forget:
Faint echoes of their moonlit cries
Heard ringing in the winter skies.
