Why Me?
by Dorcas Osesie

Cloudy. Dark. Cold. Silent. Perhaps the night reflected how she felt within. Shivering in her leather jacket, she made her way through the empty field. To where? Even she had no idea, but she had to get away, from everything, everyone. Maybe she would be able to outrun the guilt that was eating at her. There was nothing left for her here, at least so she thought.
Could there be any hope for a girl like her anymore?
Tears glided down, burning her cheeks and blurring her sight. She fought it hard as her shoulders trembled. Did it have to end this way for her? Why?
Jerry had gone, he left her with not so much as a glance back. He left a deep scar. Her Mom left faster, bolting off with another man as soon as her Father had died.
Hatred. Pain. Fear. Rage.
Her life had been shattered by the ones she had loved most.
She closed her eyes and let the tears flow as images moved behind her eyelids.
Dark images. Morbid pictures. Grisly thoughts.
The Clouds broke and rain poured forth, soaking her down to her soul.
It wasn't her fault. She had been driven by a force greater than she could control. She had been posessed by a devillish rage that could only be sated by revenge.
It had taken just five minutes to satisfy her bloodlust. Two bullets were enough for the job.
One dark ghoulish night, she had shot her mother dead as well as her Mother's husband.
The murder; an act that was so easily done, but the aftermath...
Sobs rocked her, making her fall to her knees and curl to a foetal position.
The rain had stopped and the cold breeze stung her skin.

Jade sighed as she closed the curtains. She smiled and picked her note pad. Doing what she loved to do the most, she wrote.
Why me Lord?
I am undeserving.
The least you'd consider
I was an outcast
On the list, I am last
A murderer
Yet you overlooked my SIN.
Lord, the wasted years
The painful tears
The monstrous fears
In a second, it was all gone
And all I could see was you alone;
On the Cross where the work was done.

Hadn't she been the lonely girl roaming the empty fields that dreary night, filled with suicidal hurt.
Confused. Scarred. Wounded. Pained.
That night she had encountered God's Love. The King had smiled upon her and given her eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to feel. For in the midst of that misty, damp and cold field, nature was singing.
Oh! The Wondrous Love of The King.
