Father to Son Talks
by PamFord Davis

Surely, you remember the father and son discussions on "Father Knows Best" and "Leave It to Beaver." The deeply concerned fathers shared words of wisdom; their young boys seemed to get the gist of the parental advice. Most Bible readers are well aware of the great wisdom of King Solomon. Yet, even those who have that knowledge might have failed to connect his wisdom with King David. Solomon could not inherit the intimate relationship between King David and his LORD. He would experience encounters with God of his own and gain great wisdom to lead his people. Yet, his father offered advice that prepared him beforehand.

David and Bathsheba were Solomon's father and mother. David shared both his wisdom and his heart with his Son, Solomon. "Then he taught me and said to me,
'Let your heart hold fast my words;
Keep my commandments and live;
Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the
words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will guard you;
Love her, and she will watch over you (Proverbs 4:4-6 NAS)."
