The Veteran
by Lewis E. Thomas A Veteran may be young or a Veteran may be old Most have a story that has never been told. Their eyes may be sharp or growing old and dim Their body may be intact or missing numerous limbs! They carry battle scars on their body and on their heart! When their Country needed them they did their part. They saw friends and enemies die on the Battle Field They carry unseen wounds that may never heal! They are proud Warriors Standing Tall For their Country they gave it all. When they salute The Stars and Stripes they often cry! Please dont go up and ask them why? They remember horrible scenes that haunt the soul! War time memories are written on their heart like a scroll. When you see them give them The Greatest Respect! Shake their hand and hug their neck!
