Life on Hold
by PamFord Davis

My frustration levels reach record heights when an answering machine puts me 'on hold.' The background music does not reduce my stress or keep me from repeatedly glancing at the clock or wristwatch. Maybe Braham's lullaby would better calm frazzled nerves. I wonder how God reacts when we put crucial decisions in the holding pattern.

"After some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and listened to him on the subject of faith in Christ Jesus. Now as he spoke about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix became afraid and replied, 'Leave for now, but when I find time I'll call for you (Acts 24:24-25 HCS)." He put eternal life on hold.

Hold the phone! I know a commitment is called for, but what's the hurry?

"For He says, 'In an acceptable time, I heard you,
and in the day of salvation, I helped you.'
Look, now is the acceptable time;
look, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2 HCS)."
