Trials and Tribulations

Over the years I have been asked. " Do you have trials and tribulations like the rest of us as most of your stories tell of the Lord answering your prayers?" Yes, most of the columns are about answered prayer for myself and others that have shared their blessings, Our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has been very kind and understanding to His children and we should praise Him for everything that comes our way.

Sometimes, we think at the time how terrible that a certain thing has happened and feel the Lord has forgotten us. It maybe our Lord is testing us to see if we really praise Him for all things that come our way. In Psalm 73:8 we read, " Let my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day." The more we praise the Lord, the more He wants to bless us as only the Lord can see both the beginning and the end of every trial.

Recently at a rental house I have in Marysville, California it seemed everything possible was going wrong in less than a weeks time. First, the tenant called towards an evening that the entire sewer system to the house was clogged and nothing was draining. The next morning a much larger problem presented itself as the house electrical system was going crazy. Any large 220 volt appliance, when it was turned on then other parts in the house electrical would shut down. Turn on the electric kitchen stove the TV in the living room would not come on or any lights in that area. My daughter, whom watches over this rental for me, called an electrician and he said there was a large electrical short in the house and wanted to replace all the wall switches, wall plugs and circuit box and if that did not solve the problem then a complete house rewiring would be needed. The work estimates ran into thousands of dollars, so told the technician that I was going to pray about it and do as my father always suggested, to sleep overnight on it as I prayed.

The following morning, after my wife told me about a problem at her home in Clear Lake caused by the electric company, I called PG&E to report the problem. The man, a long term employee, said he had only heard of such happenings a few times and it could burn down my house. A repairman would be sent to the location immediately and he was on the house roof when my daughter arrived. The cause was shorting and burnt power wiring going to the house, which is very rare, he said. There was no cost to me and the problem was solved, as I praised the Lord/

A day or so later when high forty miles an hour winds went through the area, a very large tree in the backyard of the rental was blown down. It could have hit my house or the neighbors and caused considerable damage, but it dropped between the houses and took out some forty feet of the back yard fencing. Only the very top of the tree laid on the neighbors roof causing no damage. and I praised the Lord that no one was hurt. My insurance determined it was an "Act of God" and not my neglect in maintaining the tree, so my insurance covered most of the costs. I had another large tree removed and the downed tree removed eliminating future tree trials.

To everyone's surprise the clogged sewer system then began to work after the large tree had shook the ground when it fell. I praised the Lord all the day long for solving these three major problems that were sent my way in a five day period. As the Bible tells us in Psalm 69:16, " Hear me, "O LORD, thy lovingkindness is good, turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies,"

Trust we all will be the church of our choice this Sunday worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God Bless America
