Standard Inspection...Give The Lord A Chance
by Buife Nomeh

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. - Psalm 51:17, KJV

David can be said to have been a great king and that'd be true. He was. The chronicle of his life from his time in the bush to the battle front and unto the throne is a great reserve of inspiration. Great lessons abound from his story. Even God called him a man after His own heart.

It wasn't David's fiasco in battle or the respect he enjoyed from his subjects or his wealth that endeared him to God. It was his attitude towards God and His Person. Despite the things David had, He always set God first before all of them. He was always quick to show God how he was feeling at any time. If he was happy and victorious, he'd dance; if he was sorrowful, he'd cry; if God blesses him, he'd praise and when he deviated from the righteous path, he'd acknowledge his wrong and cry out for forgiveness. His heart was always bare before the Lord.

Once he prayed, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." - Psalm 139:23-24, KJV.

This was a man who understood that he was afterall, just a man and had the potential to fail God. And he was saying, 'Lord, I may have some sin lurking in here that I don't even know of. Please flash your glorious Light in my heart, see them and cleanse me of them.' And I seriously believe we should be making this kind of prayer too.

Sometimes, we do some 'normal stuff' without knowing that it pains God when He sees us do such. We don't even know they are sinful and if we knew, we wouldn't do them. But, ignorance is a killer disease. As we confess the sins we know we did commit, we should remember to ask God to show us those things we do/did that are sinful that we do not know of as well as forgive us.

May the Lord continue to help us live holy lives for Him in Jesus' Name, Amen.
