Altered Reality (Virtual Reality)
by Tonja Taylor

At the mall the other day, my preteen daughter wanted me to participate in a virtual reality ride with her. We chose one of the very few that didn't appear to have demonic or violent or sexual scenes and titles, and that left us with a "runaway ice train" type thing, somewhere in the frozen tundra of Siberia, I suppose.

We leaned back in the seats, held the bars, and watched a very large screen that occupied most of our vision. While there were moments I seemed to feel involved in adventure, I still wasn't scared--cause I knew it wasn't real. It wasn't reality.

I could see the "real" world--hear people talking, see them walk past and watch me in the game--in the periphery of my vision, and, even though it seemed in the game like I was going to smash into stuff and things were falling all around me and barely missing me and the train I was in was running off the tracks, etc.--and even though I could feel the vibrations and the turning, from the seat I was sitting on that was moving in motion with the movie--I was resting.

I was resting on the fact that, no matter how things seemed to be, they would not last, and they were not reality.

So, during that interesting two minutes, I realized afresh that this world we live in is the same--temporary, and not real--compared to the spirit world and eternity.

As 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Remember, as one pastor has stated, "Everything on earth is temporary. Just keep holding on and believing God, and things will change!"

And also remember that God is our Rock Who never changes, praise Him! "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8

You can depend on Him!

Ask Him to open your eyes to how very transitory this world you live in is; how real the spirit world is, and to help you invest in eternity much more than temporary stuff.

You'll never regret it, and it will help you live each day more purposefully for the Kingdom of God.
