The Lord Answers Prayers

Standing at the church marriage altar in July 1953 as a young Air Force man age 20 with my wife to be age 17, we had no idea of the trials and tribulations we faced. However, we as Christians also knew the Lord provides our needs in the form of Physical Blessings, Material Blessings and Spiritual Blessings. We see in the Bible, Matthew 21:22, " And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

The Air Force in 1956 transferred us to Athens, Greece and I was assigned to the airport. We attended a U.S. Embassy Church with our two young children and were enjoying life near the Mediterranean Sea. However, in 1958 my wife came down with polio and was hospitalized four months in hospitals, which left an arm paralyzed and a leg weak. For a small sum we had a live in maid doing the housework and attending the children.

Two years later as a family with three children we returned to the states on a ship with our car and household items, then being assigned to a remote AF Base in Idaho. We prayed to our gracious and loving Lord and Savior for his guidance and protection often. My father helped us purchase a new large trailer to live in and had it transferred to our new assignment.

There was no medical treatment for my wife at this base so three months later we were reassigned to a base in northern California with a large hospital. The trailer served as our home and we attended a nearby church as we continued to ask the Lord for larger living quarters. A man we met was moving out of state and wanted to trade his home for a trailer, so we took over his home loan in the trade.

Having been raised as an Iowa farm boy and my wife's family also lived on a small farm, we prayed to open the door for a rural farm life for our children. We located a small acreage of five acres and the owner a young man at the nearby college, was happy with monthly payments to help him complete college. Local banks would not help us finance a farm home but we continued to pray. A "Build on your lot contractor", built the home for us and arranged the financing. The Lord had answered our prayers but that was only the beginning. The home equity we had in town we traded to obtain five additional acres of land next to ours and a year later we obtained ten more acres to make the small farm profitable for a small cattle herd.

Over the years we never forgot how the Lord blesses his children as we tried to walk close by His side. Our six children were raised enjoying God's wonderful country scenery and two now have their own small farms. My first wife of 55 years on her death bed said, " I have never know you to fail at anything as we always prayed for the Lord's guidance and protection before we made a decision."

Trust this Sunday we will all be in the church of our choice worshiping and singing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God Bless America
