Walking Around in Rags
by Steve Countryman

It is hard to tell others that you are a child of the Most High God while walking around in rags! But that is what we do. It is almost like talking to an insane homeless person. You say that you are rich beyond measure. That your Father owns cattle on a thousand hills. That He has set aside a mansion just for you. That you are a prince and heir to the throne. That you have been adopted into His royal family and royal blood now flows through you. That you are part of a royal priesthood. That He has made you more than a conquer. That He has plans to prosper you and not harm you. But what makes this all hard to believe is that you go around in rags.

Your life has to reflect that which now lives and dwells in you, Jesus. He doesn't come just to visit on Sundays when you show up for church. Or at Christmas time when you think of His birth. Or on Easter when He rose from the grave. Jesus dwells in you through the Holy Spirit everyday. Your daily life is your daily testimony of what your God has done for you. Does your daily fruit reflect the One who saved you? Does your daily life at work bear the fruit of a Christian or just one of the workers who complain about their job and their boss? When you are around others, do you speak as they do with a gossiping tongue and course talk? Do others that you "hang with" know that you are a Christian? How can they tell? Does your clothes give you away?

The Bible talks about being clothed. When you get up in the morning you get dressed depending on what your plan is for that day. It takes a thoughtful decision to decide what clothes to wear. Your clothes must fit the task that you are about to face for that day and you dress accordingly. You make the decision to clothe yourself. If you are going out to a nice dinner or engagement you may decide to dress up. Knowing that "the clothes make the man or woman". The Bible states that you are to clothe yourself according to who you are in Christ. To be clothed in righteousness, clothed in love, clothed in salvation, clothed in joy, clothed in gladness, clothed in strength and dignity, clothed in majesty, clothed with power from on High, clothed with the imperishable and clothed with Christ.

Are you clothed as a child of the Most High God or are you walking around as the world is in filthy rags? What clothes are you wearing today?
