Finishing the race
by Henry Miranda

When you become a Christians you're starting a spiritual race on the path that God has directed for you. All Christians must run this spiritual race. And you must continue the race whether you run, walk, or crawl. It is not only important that every true Christian run the race, but that he or she finishes. And to do that, we must always keep our eye on the prize which is to be with Jesus. And this is what motivates us to complete the race.

Every Christian runs his own race (1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize. Run in such a way that you may obtain it. Each of us is enabled to be a winner.
Paul exhorts us to "run in such a way as to get the prize," and to do this we must set aside anything that might hinder us from learning and then living the gospel of Christ.

Our race will have trials, and unexpected problems that might make us want to quit. Christianity is a battle, a struggle, and spiritual warfare for all of us. It is a hard thing to learn that Christianity is "fighting the good fight of faith." For Every true Christian has experienced the momentary desire to give up Christianity and go back into the world system
Ask Jesus to help you run the race set before you with diligence. If you lean on Him, He'll give you the strength you need to be disciplined spiritually, and help you run the race successfully. Do you have a daily routine for staying in the Word of God and prayer? If not, start one! Set a minimum goal that you know you can keep no matter what. That may be listening to a Christian radio station or a Christian Bible tape. Or it may be reading a devotional, or a few verses of Scripture a day. The Christian life is a fight in which we face a never-ending struggle against evil. Not an earthly military campaign, but a spiritual battle against satan

The writer of Hebrews echoes the words of Paul: "Lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)

You're not running for earthly crowns, but for heavenly crowns. (1 Corinthians 9:24-25). How we as Christians run the race has eternal consequences. If we do not finish the race, we will not see Jesus. As long as you finish the race it does not matter what you look like or feel like. Every true Christian will finish the race, but some will do better than others in the running of the race. Some will finish first and some last, but what's important that we all finish the race. Nothing else we do in life matters as much as running the race the Lord has set before us because nothing else lasts for eternity.

Be diligent in your "race," and keep your eyes on the goal, and we, like Paul, will finish strong. Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Jesus Christ is the final goal of all our spiritual training and endurance in our Christian lives.

We are to run this life with our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our Christian life involves total concentration, total attention and total occupation with Jesus Christ. Christ is the goal of our Christian race and we who persevere to the end shall be with Jesus.

We have seen marathon runners that pass the finish line after the race is over. They have the satisfaction of completing the race. As Christians even if we have to struggle to cross the finish line we must endeavor to finish our race.
