The True Me
by Shakera Reid-Stewart

You see me, but you really don't know me.
How can you say that you love me?
You tell me that I'm all that,
So, if I'm all that, why am I now dealing with all this?
If you knew me, you would know what I stand for.
If you knew me, truly knew me, you wouldn't disrespect me.
You would want to uplift and adore me.
You would desire only the best for me,
If only you really knew me.

Since you didn't bother to ask, let me tell you who I am.
I am the woman who respects you enough to know you,
The woman who knows you well enough to love you;
The one who loves you with all of my being.
I am a strong, Christian woman who is okay with saying:
If you can't see me as I am, then you don't know me,
If you don't know me, then you couldn't possibly love me,
If you don't love me, you can't have me,
And if you don't have me, then you've missed out!
