The Best Gift You Have to Give is Love!
by Tonja Taylor

In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, God lists the gifts He gives to people. He gives them as He sees fit, and He knows best. However, He does tell us to want to have those that are the best gifts:

But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1 Cor. 1:31

He gives us gifts not so that other people will admire us, but to help those other peoplejust like He, King Jesus, Who had every gift in His Person, came to help us be saved and live gloriously satisfied and productive lives for Him.

One of the gifts He gives is prophecy, which is where a person with the Spirit of God in them hears Him tell them something to tell another person, usually to encourage and strength them.

However, at the very end of I Corinthians chapter 1, the Apostle Paul tells us to "covet" (which means to want very much) earnestly (sincerely) the best (spiritual) gifts; and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way."

That "more excellent way" is love. He means that, having spiritual gifts does'nt matter nearly as much as having love for God and others. It states this in I Corinthians 2:2:

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Pray and ask God to reveal your spiritual gift(s), if you don't already know what it is. And be patient; He will reveal to you the gifts He has given. Then ask Him to show you how and where to use them to His glory! He will!

Meanwhile, also ask Him to give you more of the very best power giftlove. Continue to learn how to love others, and the LORD will be pleased with you, for this is His most important command: To love the LORD with all your heart, and to love others as you love yourself. That is the very best gift you can give another. And, remember that is what the LORD God gave usthe very best gift of al, JESUS, Who is Love:

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16
