Ask the Blessing
by PamFord Davis

'Will you ask the blessing?'

Saying grace before meals is as natural as lifting the fork. Yet, I did not grow up in a home where it was routine. As I recall, my Dad only voiced prayers before we partook of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holiday meals.

I do not remember the structure of his words of blessing. I believe he had once been accustomed to leading in prayer. This comes as no surprise; Dad was raised by godly parents. I wonder how many times one said, 'Franklin, ask the blessing.'

Jesus reverently prayed before feeding of the five thousand

"Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude (Luke 9:16 NKJ)."
