Our Daily Bread (Part 3)
by Olawale Ogunsola

So far, we have considered nine reasons behind the prayer "Give us this day, Our daily bread."

Now, let us examine three more reasons before we close the topic.

REASON TEN
By Our Daily Bread, you learn about His Supremacy and might. The Holy Bible is filled with evtdences that Our Father in heaven takes care of everything He created. How much more will He not take care of you.

He has various means of doing this daily.

For instance, during a famine in Isreal which was decreed by Prophet Elijah, our Father in Heaven fed the Prophet using a bird and a needy widow at different times. When he was also frightened by Jezebel, he ran into the wilderness where an angel fed him. You can read details in 1 kings 17: 1-24; 1kings 19:1-8

The song writer of Isreal speaks of His Supremacy thus,
"These all wait for You,
That You may give them their food in due season.
What You give them: they gather in ,
You open Your hand, they are filled with good." Psalm 104:27-28.

If you cleave to the origin of all provisions, the supreme and mighty, He will provide your Daily Bread. This is to teach you that there is no one like Him.

REASON ELEVEN
Our Daily Bread is to teach you selfless living. Do you know that what you have over and above your daily bread belongs to others who come to you to meet their needs for the glory of God?

You are only a steward.

Therefore, it teaches you how to love your neighbors as yourself. The Lord's expectations from His followers is very great. This was fully demonstrated by the early church.

How?

"Now the multitude of those who believed were of ONE HEART and ONE SOUL; neither did anyone say that any of those things he possessed was his own, but
they had all things in common."
Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold." Acts 4:32-34.

This was how the early church held loosely to the world but tightly to the Father in heaven. He expects nothing less from His saints today.

To be selfless is a virtue that you must possess. It is recorded about a virtuous woman thus,
"She stretched out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle,
She extends her hand to the poor;
Yes, she reaches her hands to the needy." Proverbs 31: 19-20.
Our Daily Bread is to teach you to do likewise.

REASON TWELVE.
It is also to teach you how to have and maintain a lasting peace at all costs. This is two.fold:
One, to have and maintain your peace of mind without ceasing. Jesus Christ declared,
"Let not your heart be troubled ;
You believe in God, believe also in Me." John 14:1.

Purpose to have a peaceful heart, believe in God and Jesus Christ; your daily bread is sure.

Two, you will have and maintain peace with others. The assignment here is, "Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it." Psalm 34:14.
This teaches how to love your enemies and conquer evil with good. You will give to those who hate you from the excess above your daily needs.

Can you now clearly see that for Jesus Christ to teach ALL His disciples to pray "Give us this day our daily bread." was out of a pure love and mercy? Pray it today and daily. It is of great benefits.
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
