by ron kyker My Country ('tis of thee) My CountryMy CountryIt is of you we used to sing My CountryFor you my heart is truly breaking For this great freedom our fathers died For this great landWe once were filled with pride These four freedoms we have now cast aside From every mountain sideFreedom of religion rang To worship "One God"Not just any god we made A religion set apart from government's rule Now our government has made religion its political fool In a land once free to speak and the opportunity to be heard Freedom now means discouraging God's spoken Word We once prayed all God's children would be "free at last" The cause of freedom was the gift of God to cast Our freedom of wantI believe has led to our demise True liberty and freedomShe stands alone now and cries True freedom means the absence of constraint and cruelty Progressing from ignorance to truthFrom slavery to liberty Once we watched with gladness and we did so without fear The press was freeWe could trust what their ears would hear Habeas Corpus was for every man whether he be rich or poor They guided our steps through times of peace and times of war My CountryOur Father's God was our God to thee We knew Him to be the only author of true liberty To thee we used to sing gladly and proudly every morning In a land once brightWe now sing it only in mourning Freedom was a "Holy Light"Protected by God's own might We used to sing to our God and KingOur light has now become night My CountryMay you become the servant of righteousness again My CountryMay you again be free from your pride and sin Have Thine own wayLord Have Thine own way My CountryYou must turn from your wicked ways You have strayed far from this historical phrase My LordHave Thine own way I pray Restore us Your freedom our fathers once praised Vasquez Savage I am a layperson with 35 years of teaching, studying, and sharing the love of Christ.
