Time To Fly
by Kathy Ledbetter

God brought His "eaglets" out of Egypt and cared for them through the wilderness and into the land of promise. A good many times they cried out that they should never have left their "nest" (Egypt). They declared that at least they had food and water there. Isn't that what the enemy wants us to think when our journey gets a bit difficult? Yet God exercised great patience as he showed them how to "fly" in the world before them.

Thought For Today:

In all things there is a time to fly on our own. It is so with children, animals and birds. At some point after detailed instruction and feeding, we must be pushed from our safe place to fly on with our life. God listened to the whining of His chosen, day after day, year after year. A trip that was no more than 250 miles or approximately a month of travel from Egypt to Caanan, would keep them in the wilderness for forty years! That was elementary, middle, junior, senior and college studies multiplied many times!

God trains us through our birth as new believers, through the milk stage of nourishment to adulthood in Christ. Along the way we will have times of wilderness events. We will have sorrow, grief, fear and sin to distract us from the flight we committed to. If we are blessed to live long enough, we will spend time in a wilderness experience. It is in those wilderness times when we go into a free fall, that our God swoops down like a mother eagle. She will fly down below the one falling and come up from under with her child on her back or wing tip. She will steady and then release. That is so like our God. In my own wilderness experiences during lengthy illness and death of my family members, there were days when my own strength failed. I was too distraught and weary to stay in flight. It was in those darkest of hours that I felt God whispering as He lifted me up. Come on now, you can do this. I have trained you for this journey. You are not alone. I am your safety net. He is always ready to swoop down from His high place and love us back into flight.

Scripture For Today:

Deuteronomy 32:10-11

10"He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. 11As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, (NKJV)

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! Thank You for the wings of strength You offer, especially in our wilderness days. Though issues may temporarily cause us to falter, You never leave us alone. You lift us to fly again, bolder and stronger than before. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I celebrate fifty years married to the love of my life in January 2017. We have two beautiful daughters, son-in-laws and four precious grandchildren. I love to study God's word and write about His love for us.
