Dust Paths
by KC Lemmer

Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV) 'Teach me Your ways, Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in You all day long.'

The dusty paths criss-crossed in a maze, with cattle prints and people prints overlapping in the dust; sometimes I thought I could spot my own tracks but when I tried to match my foot with an imprint, there was no fit. All around me was dust, dry African grass and loud Christmas beetles, but no indication of which way was home.

Often in life we might feel like we are in a confused place, not knowing which way to go. We might have too many options or have no options but wish we did. Sometimes fear might try and get a grip on us. What if we take the wrong path? What if we stay when we should have gone? Psalm 37:5 (NIV) gives us advice on what to do 'Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this'. Proverbs 21:2 (NIV) says 'A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart'. James 1:5 (NIV) encourages us with 'If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.'

We can rest assured in the truth that God will not abandon us, He will guide us and He will bring us safely home. Our part is to ask Him for direction and trust Him with the outcome.
