Imminent Departure
by PamFord Davis

In 1969, I took my first airplane flight. Living in Indianola MS, I flew from the closest big airport, located in Memphis, TN. After a change of planes in NY City, I landed safely at Syracuse, NY. Sadly, it was not a pleasure trip; I went home to attend my Grandpa Ford's funeral. Airport security has changed dramatically since that trip.

Family and friends once walked me directly to my departure gate. Now, we say our goodbyes inside the entrance of airports. The Apostle Paul shared his heart with friends as he prepared for an imminent departure.

"For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. In the future, there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have loved his appearing (2 Timothy 4:6-8 HCS)."
