New Car Fever
by PamFord Davis

I have had a case of 'new car fever.' After signing on the dotted line (actually, next to several pink highlighted x marks) my body temperature is dropping. To say we needed a new car is an understatement; we purchased a low-priced sedan with hopes of great gas mileage. I think we made a good choice; it meets a basic need for transportation. Yet, as other things this world offers, could never fulfill my deepest needs.

Speaking from experience, no matter how big the investment, satisfaction is fleeting. Many years ago, we took part in the American dream. We had house plans drawn up, were approved for a loan and waited for building to begin. The daily drive-by inspections for progress were thrilling. When the construction crew neared completion, we purchased new furniture. I was like a kid waiting for Christmas; each night, I'd visualize each room and its furnishings. Moving day came!

It was our new home but not all I'd imagined.

"Do not love the world or the things that belong to the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. Because everything that belongs to the worldthe lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one's lifestyleis not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does God's will remains forever (1 John 2:15-17 HCS)."
