Gospel Seed
by PamFord Davis

The time-tested lyrics of the hymn, 'Sowing in the Morning,' [Bringing in the Sheaves] was written in the 1800's by Knowles Shaw. As many great hymns, the writer based his lyrics on a scripture text.

"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth , bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126:5-6 KJV)."

How much gospel seed am I sowing? Sadly, I shed very few tears over those who have hardened their hearts toward God. If I did, I would be reaping the rewards with joy

The word of God is indeed precious seed, both precious to the sower and receptive receiver alike. Each harvested sheaf is a soul saved with heaven as their destination!

"Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest (Luke 10:2 KJV)."
