My Sentimental Journey
by PamFord Davis

Yesterday, my Mom would have celebrated her 93rd birthday.

It is inevitable, I take a sentimental journey; crossing barriers of time, I remember her and the many ways she influenced my life.

As a child, I listened while she sang to me. 'Bushel and a Peck' is still like a 'hug around the neck.' 'Jeepers Creepers,' lyrical 'Where'd you get them eyes?' brings a smile to my face.

Though Big Band orchestras had faded from the scene, her love for the music of Glen Miller and Orchestra was obvious. Her boxed set of 45's was a prize possession.

It was Les Brown and Orchestra with Doris Day as vocalist, on the ever-popular 'Sentimental Journey.'

I always get sentimental when I hear that song, knowing it was a favorite of Mom and Dad before they married. Music is not only for lovers. It is for making memories and triggering them too.

I wonder what my children and grandchildren will remember when thinking about me

What will trigger memories?

I endeavor to leave a legacy of faith in Christ Jesus. Consider words of closure, shared by Apostle Peter.

"And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound , they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off , and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance (2 Peter 1:5-15 KJV)."
