Soiled Souls
by PamFord Davis

Most from my baby boomer generation recall a time when our moms said, 'If you say that again, I'm going to wash out your mouth with soap!'

We may have picked up bad language from playmates or talked back. I do not remember ever having a literal mouth washing; yet, I got the point.

America needs a good old-fashioned washing! Not only is much talk foul, through willful sin, we have soiled our souls.

"When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning (Isaiah 4:4 KJV)."

If I expect God to cleanse our nation, I must first personally seek his thorough cleansing.

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:7-10 KJV)."
