Do You Accept God's Gift?
by Annagail Lynes

We love Him because He first loved us. - I John 4:19 (NIV).

When we read this Scripture, we focus on the "because He first loved us" part. As well we should.

However, this verse makes an interesting statement. We love Him because...

Not if we love Him. It states that we do love Him.

Most Christians struggle with loving God enough, with being good enough, with simply being enough, when it comes to God.

Romans 5:5 (KJV) tells us, "And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."

We have the love of God in our hearts.

We can love God and other people, particularly the ones who are trying, with the love of God shed abroad in our hearts.

We can pray, "Lord, please help me to love so-and-so with Your Love instead of mine."

In and of ourselves, we have nothing good to offer the world. We cannot even love God in and of our own strength.

Truly we cannot do anything without God (John 15:5).

Instead of focusing on how much we love God, we need to focus our attention back onto the second part of this Scripture. The part that says, "because He first loved us."

When we draw our attention to this, to what He did for us on the Cross, we find the love of God whelming in our hearts for other people and for God.

We can never love God enough, be good enough or be enough to earn God's love.

Just like salvation, it is a free gift.

Instead of questioning it, we need to just accept it.

Accept God's love for you today.
