Every Good And Perfect Thing
by Steve Countryman James 1:17 "Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father." Recently I received a revelation that has really opened my eyes to the scriptures and helped unlock some of God's promises in my life. Reading some of the promises of God can cause you to misinterpret your part in receiving them. For example 3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." Reading this I used to think that I wouldn't be in health until my soul prospered. That I had to do something to cause my soul to prosper that would bring good health. Deuteronomy 30:9 "Then the LORD your God shall make you abundantly prosperous in everything that you do." So if my soul prospers and that is obviously a good thing and ALL good things come from God then God prospers my soul! I don't have to EARN my healing or EARN prospering my soul, they are gifts from God. Galatians 5:22-23 "22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control." These "fruits of the Spirit" are from God. These fruits are good and perfect things. All good and perfect things come from God. Therefore if you need or lack any of these good and perfect things then pray for God to give them to you! For example if you struggle with some kind of sin and you need self-control to gain the victory then pray for it. Anything that is a fruit of God cannot be earned but He gives them to you as unmerited favor. 2 Peter 1:3, 5-7 "3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love." These are more examples of God supply, His fruits of the Spirit. Add these to your faith, add these to your prayers for they are all good and perfect things from God. That's what I had learned. It is tying the Word of God together with His promises. Pray out loud and declare God's Word, His promises for you, His fruits of the Spirit over your life and you will receive them. Your boast is not in what good and perfect things that you have done but rather boasting in the Lord for those good and perfect things He has done through YOU!
