His Presence Is Just A Prayer Away
by Shari Weigerstorfer

I'm leaving today. A flight will take me to a warm, sunny land. My bags are filled with swimsuits and beach wear. I'm wearing shorts and sandals, clothing appropriate for the time to come.

It's a quick sprint through the cold rain to the protection of my warm, waiting cab. The driver assesses my attire and looks at me skeptically. I smile and ask him to take me to the airport. I'm going on holiday. His expression turns to one of wistful envy.

I sit in the back seat of the taxi, watching the dismal, dank city pass by. I'm grateful I'm only in transit. Soon my flight will lift me through the clouds into the brilliant, bright sunshine. Warmth and light will flood the cabin, and the gloomy atmosphere I'm now enduring will be but a memory. I know this is true. The sun is always shining above the clouds.

Every so often, my relationship with God can seem this way. Some days my life is filled with black, hostile clouds. The warmth of God's love feels far away. I look, but I can't see Him. But faith assures me He's there, just like the sun. His wonderful presence is just a prayer away.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9 NASB).
