Baptized With Fire
by Leonard Granger

We see in the God's Word the Bible, where our Lord Jesus Christ will baptize us , when we are his born-again believers, with " Fire". In Matthew 3:11 we read what John the Baptist told the Jewish followers whom he baptized, " I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire."

Fire can be useful to give us candle light, a source for cooking, and for heating. However, it can destroy our house, cause enormous forest fires, or bring about other disasters. But when the Lord tells us he will baptize us with fire, that is important for us to meditate and learn to understand. The phrase, " All fired up " may have originated from the Lord's promise to baptize his servants with fire?

First, fired up means we are bold and live a life here on earth that is Christ like, as we try to walk in our Lord's footsteps. When the world looks at us, they see a person with a different lifestyle that honors God in all aspects of their daily walk.

The bold life they receive may call them to a full time ministry as a pastor, priest, or missionary of the Lord. Others will serve the Lord as Deacons, Sunday School teachers, sing in the choir, or in dozens of other ways. We can all spread the Gospel to others we come in contact. The Great Commission tells us in Mark 16:15, " And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature," We may not be called as a foreign country missionary but we can be a missionary at home to our family, neighbors, co-workers, and others we meet.

Let our life become a beacon of light to our sinful society, as we attend church, hear God's message to us, and grow as believers with our church family. Daily reading the Bible and praying often to our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gives us the spiritual food to grow as a Christian.

Yes. the Lord has baptized us with fire and as his servant we should be using that wonderful boldness, he has given us. We, as we serve Him are showered daily with blessings for our faithfulness as we give praise and honor to our Lord. The blessings may come as material blessings, physical blessings or spiritual blessings but the Lord hears our prayers and answers them according to his time table. When the Lord calls us home to be with him, I pray we all hear him say ," Well done, my faithful servants".

As we attend the church of our choice this Sunday, let us look at our life and see if we are using the fire the Lord baptized us with to best serve the Him, as we worship and honor our Savior.
