QUIETING THE SELFISH, UNDUE ANGER OF MAN
by Mayowa Afolabi

I Sam 17:
[28] And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

[28]And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

Have you ever experienced people get angry with you on no just cause? They bottle up such anger to the point of blowing up, most times without you knowing of it. Some of them develop guts to confront you at times without any reasonable and defendable cause of their anger! You are left startled on how to respond to the situation!

I am reminded now of a funny story that happened in a compound l once lived. This is a compound with blocks of flats. A woman a single mum just bottled up anger against a young couple. What was their offense? And you know what, this woman had to summon the landlord to settle the rift between her and her neighbour, known to her alone as at then.

When the landlord came, the young man was summoned. Their first offence was she saw them convert a generator that was meant for pumping water for the entire compound to personal use. Eventually, it was discovered the generator similar to the compound's own was the couple's personal possession. Secondly, according to her words, the wife washed a dirty and smelling water of beans behind her flat months ago during raining season and thus disturbed her peace.

This was a case put at five months before that time. The question is how on earth would someone leave her flat to go wash outside and that behind someone else's apartment. The woman had been unnecessarily nagging the couple before then without any offense known to them. This is similar to the story of Eliab and David above. David was actually sent to check up his brothers in war zone and give them food. He was simply on a mission. Coming to fulfill that mission of an "errand boy" birthed a greater mission that would turn him to a national hero.

Look beloved, in that your little service and faithful errands, lies the open door to a greater mission that would bring you to limelight! Though on a mission, David was accosted by his eldest brother Eliab. To him, David does not have the biceps to want to fight battle. They are the one with the broad chest, muscle and jabs required to fight and win a battle. Before saying jack, Eliab became furious just because of a lad on a divinely orchestrated rescue mission for a whole nation!

You see, there are some people that just think you are not qualified to be in the premises of your dream or vision. They see you as incapable to carry such a heavy mandate. As a result, they try to bend you into their mold. They want to force you to subject and submit such vision to them. This is because they can see a glimpse of the future of where you are and what you are doing. Some so called mentors do this. They make you see your incapability! They box up and express anger on you as if they are the comptroller of you life. They make you see how bogus your vision is. Watch it! They are vision killers! They are vision stealers! They do everything to nametag you as proud.

David's reply to Eliab's cacophony was to emphasize he was on a cause! That is it! You do not have to flare up in return, no. Just make it clear that you know what you are doing; you know where you are going and you know why you are here. All you need to do to clip the feathers of anger of such people is to continuously live and remain in purpose! It disdains them. You sternly say an emphatic no and carefully reject any attempt to swindle you into relinquishing the vision you know is from God. Also, you silence them forever by partnering with God to produce an award-winning results that will stand a whole nation in ovation of such great feat!

I pray may God deliver you from the wrath of man!
