Forgiveness Confession and Prayer Menu
by Tai Ikomi The day I forgave the man who killed my family was the day I learned the power of speaking out my resolution to forgive. It was as my counselor told me to keep on confessing my forgiveness that I was able to finally forgive this young drunk man who took so much away from me. Today, I no longer bear grudge against him. What a freedom! I have used the same modus operandi to forgive over and over again. In learning to forgive I have discovered the power of confession. Here are 12 suggested confessions. You may select what applies to your situation. At the beginning of your confession, you may not mean those words, but continue anyway. Sometimes it may look as if you cannot do it, emotions may convulse, anger may arise, your pain may double, but keep on confessing anyway. Jesus is there to strengthen you. He knows how you are feeling. He knows your struggles. He has been there. Do not give up. After you have forgiven, you will be glad that you did not give up. To begin, mention the person by name and what they did. Try to bring the offense to your mind. Don't hide it under the rug. Don't suppress the feelings, rather, release them and let God have His way in your life. Select which confession is applicable to you. Father, I declare before you today that I have decided to forgive (the name of your offender). I forgive you, (offender's name), for (call out the offenses your offender has committed against you). 1. Today I cancel your debt. I will not hold them against you anymore. As God has forgiven me all my debts so I forgive you for the debts you owe me. You are free of all charges. 2. I no longer blame you. I acquit you of the wrong you have done against me. 3. I release you in order to be released myself. I will not hold these sins against you in my actions, in my thoughts, and in my words. 4. I no longer see you in a bad light because I have removed the offense from you. It is as if you never offended me. I release that offense in Jesus' name. 5. Today, I am free from the bondage of being resentful and unforgiving toward you. No more bitter feelings. I remove it from my heart by the power of Jesus Christ living in me. 6. As God has shown me great mercy, I also extend my mercy to you. Instead of justice, I chose mercy. Instead of anger I choose compassion. Instead of insisting in fairness, I choose tolerance for if God were to mark my own sins, I would not be able to stand before Him. 7. I pray for you that God would forgive you, heal you and bless you as well.. 8. I accept the forgiveness God has given me for my own past sins. I receive my own healing and freedom. Lord, I pray that this decision to forgive will not be retracted. 9. I receive and help from your throne of grace to continue to forgive. I receive your heart of forgiveness. Give me the wisdom to deal appropriately with others and in various situations so that I am not subjected to various forms of abuse. 10. I pray, Lord, that the consequences of the offense will be reversed for my good, for all things are possible with you. 11. I pray for you that God would give you prosperity and heal you too. 12. Lord, heal my heart, and my wounds, restore my joy and make me whole again. Lord, I do this in honor of your word, in Jesus' name. Amen Forgiveness Scriptures And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses (Mark 11:25). But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses (Mark 11:26). And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors (Matthew 6:12). For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you (Matthew 6:14) So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses (Matthew 18:35). Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven (Luke 6:37) And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you (Ephesians 4:32).
