Yielding To The Holy Spirit
by Steve Countryman

Yielding as to give way, submitting, surrendering, allowing another to have their way, deferring your will to allow movement to take place. When talking about the moving of the Holy Spirit in your life there are some things that you need to understand first.

Jesus didn't perform any miracles until He was baptized by John the Baptist and the dove of the Holy Spirit landed on Him. Likewise the disciples didn't start their ministries or do any miracles until the Holy Spirit came upon them in the Upper Room. Both of these events involved the Holy Spirit infusing people with Holy Power!

This isn't something that just suddenly happens when you least expect it. On the contrary it must be something that YOU desire, a closer deeper relationship with God the Father. You must be willing to submit totally to the Holy Spirit casting all of your cares on Him. Releasing all of your worries and troubles over to Him. It takes a full surrender of your life, will and spirit to allow the movement of the Holy Spirit to take up residence in you.

Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Matthew 28:19-20 "19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Acts 19:6 "When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied." Mark 16:17 "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues."

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is confirmed at the moment you start speaking in other tongues. This cannot happen unless you yield to the Holy Spirit fully and unconditionally. There are those who don't believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and those who believe that those gifts died with the apostles. For them receiving the Holy Spirit or being baptized with the Holy Spirit is impossible. Speaking in tongues is proof of the Holy Spirit in you and is the sign that you have yielded your will to that of the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is the Holy Spirit speaking through you and that only happens through a yielded spirit.

There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 "7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."

None of these gifts are manifested or demonstrated except through the Holy Spirit in and through YOU! And none of these gifts happen unless you first pray for them earnestly and yield to the will and presence of the wonderful Holy Spirit!

Beyond the gift of God's salvation, being filled with the Holy Spirit is the most important and most powerful decision that you'll ever make. It is how you become a complete Christian armed and empowered with all of the power and authority of Heaven here on earth! For only by yielding to the Holy Spirit do you allow the working of the Holy Spirit in you, to you, with you, for you and through you!
