"To Err IS Human"
by Dinora Garza

"Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults."

I never feel worse about myself than when I make a mistake and hurt someone I love; much worse when it involves God and misrepresents Him. Has this happened to you? Someone asks you something about God and you answer without pondering the question enough, and when you finish, you realize your words didn't show your love nor the love of God for that person. When this happens to me I wish I'd never gotten out of bed!

It is so painful to fail. I've always hated it. I remember many years ago I was known at work for being the employee who made the least mistakes of all. I was always alert to avoid making mistakes and it worked for me. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way in our daily lives.

Why do we hate making mistakes so much? Maybe because it reminds us how limited we are, and how far we are from God's standard of perfection? Or because we like to think we are better than we are? Whatever the case, our mistakes are a constant reminder of our sinful condition.

Did you know the word "sin" means to miss the mark? "To miss the mark" Do you see it? It is what mistakes are all about. A mistake is aiming at something and... failing.

Those mistakes are necessary, though. They humble us, make us more conscious of our limitations, and draw us closer to God. Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." And He is right. Apart from Christ we are destined to fail God, others and ourselves. It is only in His love, His wisdom and His power that we are able to conquer. We are that small

Have you failed, and cannot forgive yourself? Seek comfort in God and ask for His direction. Cling to Him stronger still and trust Him..."He who has begun a good work in you will complete it."

"The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of your hands."

I am a Christian. My passion is to know the Lord, and help others to understand His character and will. Read one of my blogs at: onetruthonegod.wordpress.com
