What Is Your Life
by Leonard Granger

I have heard people say that life is what you make it. But have you ever thought how little control we really have over our life? We read in the Bible, in the New Testament Book of James, 4:14-15, " Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appearth for a little time, and then vanish away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this. or that."

Our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came to the earth to save the world as we read in John 3:17, " For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." How we accept the Lord as our Savior is also found in the Book of John as we read " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." The Lord gives us Eternal Salvation when we yield to his call, turn from self works to Christ and are saved. Our life serving the Lord here on the earth is according to his timetable and roadmap, as only he knows when we will be called home.

Recently, being the young age of 83 years old, I found it interesting to check the obituaries in our large city regional newspaper. There were four pages of pictures and life stories of 53 local residents here in our area of California. As I read the life accomplishments of each individual, with many listing details of education and noted occupations over the years, I discovered there were only 11 people more elder than myself. The older generation often made reference to the Lord in their life and attended a church. while only a few of the younger obituaries mentioned a church.

Many of the life stories ended in the 50. 60. 70 years of their life here on the earth and it made me wonder if they had attended church and served the Lord, if their earthly life would have been longer? In recent years, studies have been made by the Mayo Clinic and John Hopkins Medical Group to see if it is true if people that attend churches live longer? The result was a 28 percent longer lifespan and the newspaper information cited seems to backup the study.

We read in the Bible where God tells us how he will take care of his servants. Psalm 91: 14-16, " Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and shew him my salvation."

Yes, we can see that people that live by faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and have followed a life of godliness, have a much sweeter life full of blessings and years of fruitful service in the kingdom of God. Let us look at our life and let us pray and read God's Word daily, as we add years to our earthly life.

Trust we will all be in the church of our choice this Sunday worshiping and honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God Bless America
