The God Who Speaks
by Bonnie Derksen

I sit
Waiting
In silence.
Heart beating,
Lifeblood flowing,
Lungs, pulling air in
Then pushing it back out.
In the stillness, I hear God's voice:
"I am your Creator. I have given you life."

Eyes shut,
Ears hearing
Creation's voices
In full surround sound.
Chirping, buzzing, cawing
Joining as one, in celebration
Of this life in the land of the living.
While nature is worshipping, I hear God speak:
"I'll give you a song to sing; I inhabit the praises of creation."

Fresh eyes
Soak in beauty
Nature's display
Colors, textures, depth
Intricate details intensified
Lines, patterns, once missed,
Now embraced with joy, delight.
While in the midst of the garden, God says to me:
"I'm a Master Designer. I make all things beautiful in my time."

Thirst nags,
Hunger cries
For the moment,
Satisfaction is found.
Heart discontent, searching,
Is met by the Source of all Truth
Bread of Life freely given and received.
God speaks love, through His Son, to my heart
"Taste and see I am good. You will never thirst again."

BONNIE DERKSEN has been journaling her way to greater intimacy with the Lord for many years. Living in southern British Columbia, Canada, with her husband and three adult children, she has recently started exploring the world of writing.
