Am I Great Before God?
by Olawale Ogunsola

"If that shouting and clapping is for Jesus Christ,
it is not good enough.
But if that shouting and clapping is for me,
it is too much."
These are the words of a renowned General Overseer of a very large denomination with branches worldwide.

How will you react if you were in his shoes?

This African Preacher of Righteousness is an epitome of humility. He is humbleness personified. He is an easygoing man of God, loving and loveable.

What is the relevance of all these to the title of this article? Please follow me!

Have you ever taken time to ask yourself this question: "Am I Great Before God?" If yes, how often do you do so? When people freely rain accolades on you, how do you react?

Do you know that it is possible to be a man of great repute before man and a prominent man among your peers, in your denomination or nation. The question remains, "Am I Great Before God?"

There are so many people who sing their own praises, while many love others to do it for them. What about you? Which do you love? What do you love?

Please, pay attention to the fact that the flesh loves being praised. Man loves to see with the eyes of flesh, seeing is believing is the song. However, it is better to see with the spiritual eyes which is of God.

In the days of Prophet Samuel, after King Saul have turned away from God, the Lord directed him (Samuel) to anoint one of Jesse's sons, as King to replace Saul. On arrival at Jesse's house, each was presented to the Lord represented by Samuel. When Eliab, the firstborn appeared, the Prophet was convinced by his physique that he declared,
"Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him!" 1 Samuel 16:6.

At this point, the Lord conducted a one-man seminar for His Prophet during which He taught him,
"Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him.. For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7.

What is your "outward appearance" and "physical stature"?, which men commend? Do not forget to ask yourself," Am I Great Before God?"

Ditto when Moses was condemned by his fellow ministers, Miriam and Aaron, older sister and brother respectively, what was the Lord's response?
"Hear now my words:
If there is a Prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision,
I speak to him in a dream
Not so with My servant, Moses,
He is faithful in My house..
I speak to him face to face,...
Why then are you not afraid
To speak against My servant, Moses? "Numbers 12:6-8.

That was Moses before God. Are you also great before Him? Can God say the same about You? Are you faithful in God's house? Are you faithful in this adulterous and evil generation?

It is the Lord's commendation,
And not man's condemnation
That matters!

It is the Lord's condemnation
That you should fear
Do not love man's commendation
That may not matter much!

Do not justify yourself
In anything,
Nor cherish human justification
Of you;

"For what is highly esteemed
Among men is an abomination
In the sight of God." Luke 16:15.

Never forget to ask yourself regularly, "Am I Great Before God?"
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
