A Meditation From The Heart
by Dr. Henderson Ward

As I meditate on you Lord, on your great love for us in sending Jesus Christ to bring us back to you, on your inexhaustible mercy and infinite care for us fallen beings, I am reminded that you are poised to shower your blessings on us as we needy people travel through this wicked world.

Lord, we are reminded of how much you love us, of your wish that we not only walk before you and be perfect, but that as we travel along your bounteous care will accompany us, like a close and trusted friend along the way, and we get tremendous comfort from the instructions you gave to Moses for your children: "The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." (Numbers 6:24-26)

Even so, Lord, pour out your blessings on me and all those I love, care for, meet and know and for all those who through Jesus Christ are walking in fellowship with you and each other. You promise us the blessing of peace, the peace that transcends our miserable circumstances and lifts us up to heavenly places in you; and this we claim through the blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Lord God, we are alive, not because we have done good things and merited your favour, for we know that "If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?" (Psalm 130:3) and it is certain that we are not sinless, but rather because your mercies are as sure as yesterday's sunrise and on that we depend.

So we step forward hopefully, but we know that the enemy has traps set for our downfall, as he has for all your children, but today disillusion him yet again in the name of Jesus. Send forth your mighty messengers to guide and assist us in our every endeavour and let you name, a name higher and more glorious than any other, be praised and elevated to the highest for your glory and honour.

You promised, and I believe with all my heart that "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper" (Isaiah 54:17) and in that assurance I, your servant, go forward boldly, knowing that today you have given me victory; so help me to demonstrate this gracious favour by my living.

And when, as is likely, that I come up against that which is puzzling, troubling, or even scary, and the old fears begin to come back to haunt me, then remind me of your mighty presence as when you said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)

Remind me always. Almighty God, in truth, it begins with you, continues with you, and in the end it is you, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being." (Acts 17:28) I am blessed to know this. May every child of yours have this blessed assurance. Amen.

Enough said.
