In the Valley of a BC Morn
by Richard L. Provencher

I want to wrap myself
around the stillness of a BC morn
like the birch that clings,
a white arrow reaching the sky
with overcast a nuisance away;
the jewellery of another day.

Yet horses continue jawing at
their greens covering the yard as
velvet sheen. Chewy without
a need for unnecessary work before
the swallow.

Yesterday we fished the Morice River
its flow enticing silver flash
of lure; single hook at attention.
Waiting for the big one a
steelhead. Visitors come from all over
to share the pleasure.

And now rain picks up. Delays our
plans horses still munching
and those birch as straight as ever.
