In the Shadows
by Richard L. Provencher

Billy has a laboured drag,
wheel-chair in tow and his body
anchored in pain

he arrives slowly down the
sidewalk, even weaving at times.
Walkway too narrow
with portly passers-by
barely
shuffling past,
their dignity in check. Not

minding them at all, this young
man has felt the pang of
sad moments too often, now a
veteran of bruised feelings

a nuisance at times in a crowd
wheels stuck in slow motion;
yet, there is gain in the pain

as sunset ends the day, and
tomorrow it may rain.
