Inheritance in Christ-Go To Your Father For Your Bread
by Ngozi Nwoke

Are you a child of God? If you are, then you are entitled to the blessings of God, you have a right to whatever God can provide. A true father takes care of at least his children's basic needs, and God is not an exception. This post emphasizes the Father and child relationship between you and God that ought to give you your inheritance in Christ and supply all your needs.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! - Matthew 7: 7-11 (NKJV, emphasis mine).

Christians are struggling, crying and suffering to get things that are already their inheritance in Christ Jesus. Many people are children of God but live like slaves. They are ignorant of the blessings that are theirs as members of the family of God.

A child enjoys great privileges for being part of his family. As a child, he is entitled to his father's inheritance. He does not bother or worry over how to meet his daily needs. He is too sure that his parents will take care of him. All he knows is to ask and expect results from them. Likewise, as a child of God, you are to ask and expect results from God your father.

God is a model of a true father. The scripture mentioned in Matthew 7:9-11, that if a man can give his son bread and not stone when he asks for bread, your Father in heaven will much more give good things to those who ask Him. The Lord is ever ready to give you your inheritance in Christ as a member of the family of God.

The challenge is that many Christians won't go to God first for their needs. They would rather try to do it themselves first or go to someone they think has the capacity to help them, before remembering to go to God for help. This displeases God. In 2 Kings 1:1-4, God rebuked king Ahaziah for sending messengers to another god to inquire of his health when He, God almighty, was in Israel. It is wisdom to always go to your Father in heaven for your needs first. It is left for Him to lead you on how to get your prayers answered.

It is one thing to be a child of God, it is another thing to know how to fully enjoy your inheritance in Christ. In families, some children seem to enjoy the help of their parents more than their siblings. Most of the time, it's not that their parents love them more than the others, but that they always do what pleases them. Even Jesus in John 8:29 said that the Father didn't leave Him because He always did what pleased the Father.

How to please the Father and access your bread from him quickly

Be born again

Only children are entitled to their father's inheritance. Others may get gifts or drops of blessings but children will always have showers of blessings. When you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, you automatically become a member of the family of God and co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17)

Ask

Everyone who asks in faith receives. If you don't ask, you will not have and if you ask amiss you will not receive (James 4:2-3). Even though God knows all things, He is waiting for you to ask. Blind Bartimaeus was obviously blind, but Jesus did not assume that to be the problem he needed solved. Bartimaeus had to say what he wanted before Jesus answered him (Mark 10:51).

Be obedient

An obedient child will always please his father. Jesus was obedient to the Father and God never left Him (John 8:29). When you obey God's words and commands, He will lift you high and cause His blessings to come on you. (Deuteronomy 28:1). This was what Moses told the children of Israel whom God had chosen to be called His own. So, even though you are a child of God, obedience is what attracts your Father's full blessings.

Be patient

You need to be patient after doing the will of God, for you to receive your answers (Hebrews 10:36). Many Christians lose their blessings because of impatience. When you ask in faith, having been obedient to God's instructions, God releases the answer to you, but you need patience for the answer to reach you. Daniel prayed for an answer but had to wait for 21 days, without doubting before the answer could reach him (Daniel 10:12-13).

Be thankful

A life of gratitude endears a Christian to God, but murmuring and complaining puts God off. The scriptures says in 1 Corinthians 10:10 that murmuring attracts destruction. It is the will of God that you give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18). A life of gratitude enables you to appreciate little things and build your faith for bigger things. It is easier to stretch your faith when you remember and appreciate the things God had done for you. And without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

In conclusion, your inheritance in Christ as a member of the family of God is already settled but you have to go to your Father to receive them. Always please God, be confident and bold to ask for them and you will receive.
