Thoughts Become Your Reality
by Rachel Jamerson

"Every thought has a corresponding electrochemical reaction in your brain. When you think, chemicals course through your body in magnificently complex electrochemical feedback loops. These chemicals produce electromagnetic waves, which, if you could hear them, would sound like the most exquisite orchestral symphony." ______~Dr. Caroline Leaf

Dr. Caroline Leaf studies the mind-brain connection. She is a cognitive neuroscientist with a Ph.D. in Communication Pathology specializing in Neuropsychology. Dr. Leaf frequently lectures to both Christian and secular audiences worldwide.

In her book Who Switched off My Brain: Controlling Toxic Thoughts and Emotions, Dr. Leaf states that the average person processes over 30,000 thoughts a day. That results in quite a few life-altering decisions that we all make every day. Our brains continue to process information even while we sleep, which is why we dream.

Have you ever considered how your thoughts affect the decisions you make each day? What if you could control the outcome of a situation just by controlling your thoughts? You might be surprised! Not only do our thoughts affect our physical and emotional well-being, we have the ability to control them!

"Behavior starts with a thought. Thoughts stimulate emotions, which then result in attitude and finally produce behavior."___~Dr. Caroline Leaf

This observation indicates actions are based on our perception of a matter. Perception is the process of attaining awareness or understanding by interpreting sensory information. Everything you see, hear and feel becomes part of your thought life. This is true from the time you are born until you die.

Children learn what they live and live what they learn. Experiences from early childhood are instrumental in forming the grid through which they view life. If these foundational experiences are positive, the results are a healthy foundation upon which to build. If the experiences are toxic, the adult will struggle with them throughout his/her life.

In this age of technology, we are bombarded continuously with sensory information both good and bad. External sources compete for control of our actions through information fired at lightning speed from multiple sources. Electronic media, music, movies and TV are just some of the sources we encounter every day. Do we always take the time to filter what we see and hear? Remember: where the mind goes the man follows.

"At any moment, your brain is creatively performing about 400 billion actions, of which you are only conscious of around 2,000." ___~Dr. Caroline Leaf

The heart and mind are closely interrelated. It is not the thoughts that pass through our minds that have the most profound effect on our lives, but those we allow to take up residence. The mind evaluates and the heart appropriates (makes something one's own). Appropriation is the act of taking possession of or assigning purpose to properties or ideas. Thoughts become your reality.

"As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." ___Proverbs 23:7).

"Guard the secret theater of your heart. See nothing there you do not want to see happen in reality." _______~Roy H. Williams

"Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it precedes the issues of life." ____Proverbs 4:23).

Consciously think about what you think about. Consider the source of your thoughts. Protect your mind from negative influence, for thoughts leave indelible footprints. Guard your mind: guard your heart. Thoughts become your reality.

rachelrjamerson.com After becoming a Christian, my desire to write and quest for answers were dedicated to understanding God?s message to man. What exactly was He saying and why were there so many different interpretations? As a result, I became an avid student of scripture.

God gave me the desire to learn, research, study and write all of which I enjoy. When you can plainly see the path God has set before you it becomes easier to overcome the obstacles placed by the enemy. The scriptures are a light for your pathway. If you desire to know the truth, you will and the truth will set you free from bondage.
