I Come as a Thief
by Greg Robbins

Revelation 16:15 "Behold, I come as a thief, Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame."

This is a beautiful verse of scripture. Jesus is declaring the way he will return. So many have tried to declare the exact date of our Lord's return. They have all failed. Jesus said that no man knows the hour of his return, but only his Father which is in heaven. So why try to figure it out when Jesus already said that no man knows the day or the hour of his return? Jesus made it clear that he will return as a thief. You do not know when a thief will break in and steal. But one thing that you can do is to watch and wait for the arrival of the thief. And this is exactly what Jesus wants us to do concerning his return. Be ready at all times for his return. Don't get totally involved in the things of this world to where you are no longer ready for the Lord's return.

"Blessed is he that watches." Are you receiving this blessing? This blessing is only given to the one who watches. So many are watching television and their computer instead of watching for the return of Jesus. Others are watching sports and the stock market instead of watching for the return of Jesus.

What is it to watch for the return of Jesus? I would say that it is to keep my attention fixed upon Jesus and his Words. The world and all it's distractions are calling for my attention. I am to daily meditate upon the Words of Jesus and watch for his return. I am to live my life in anticipation of his return. Since he is coming as a thief, and he can come at any moment, Am I ready for the moment of his return? The Bible tells us that it is appointed unto man once to die and then comes the judgement. Are you ready to be judged by God? Know the severity of his judgement, and be ready for it. Do you know that every idle word that you speak, you will be judged for on the day of judgement? Do you know that by your words you will either be justified or condemned? Are you aware of the fact that the Words that Jesus spoke while on the earth are what will be your judge? You don't need to wonder what will be your judgement on that day. Just read the words of Jesus and you will already know what your judgement will be like. You have no excuse on that day for Jesus has already let us know what our judgement will be.

So don't be caught naked and full of shame at the return of Jesus Christ. You can prepare yourself for his return right now. Pray, study your Bible, cry out to God for eyes that see, ears that hears, and a heart that understands. Be separate from the things of this world and prayerfully watch for the return of the Lord. Do righteous acts and cast all wickedness far from you.
