God Loves Animals
by Greg Robbins

God created the animal kingdom and he is pleased with his creation and he loves them. Did you ever create anything? A painting, pottery, re-built a car engine, wrote a book, made your own special recipe for chili, had children, built a bird cage, or something else like that? It feels good doesn't it? You also feel pride, accomplishment, satisfaction, and love for what you created. This is because you are made in the image and the likeness of God and he made you to create just as he does.

You are in little what God is in big your sins being excepted. We find this hard and difficult to believe but it is so anyways. God's family are sons and daughters who are made in his image and likeness. They are ordinary, or maybe I should say, extraordinary human beings who have been born again and have received the life and the nature of God. I hope that you are one of them or are in the process of becoming one of them.

Genesis 1:20-25 "And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps upon the earth after their kind: and God saw that it was good."

All that God created he said that it was good. The love of God is a reflection of God himself. We need only look to the word and do some meditation upon it to understand what the love of God is. God created the animals and he loves them. In the animal kingdom animals kill each other and eat one another. They sometimes suffer. They get sickness and disease as we humans do and die of hunger and drought. All of this is within the love of God and it is a reflection of it.

Here is the clincher. All of this is a reflection of the love of God to a FALLEN world. Adam sinned and is responsible for this condition. Adam was the steward and the guardian of his world. Adam was given the authority to govern this world. He transgressed and this authority was lost to the devil until Jesus comes to set things right during the millennial reign and in the new heavens and the new earth.

Animals did not suffer nor kill one another before Adam sinned. And during the millennial reign the lion shall lie down with the lamb and he shall eat straw. The children shall play with serpents and scorpions. There shall no harm come to any of them. Quite possibly all of the people then living shall all be vegetarians. This is what God's love looks like in a restored world.

So it's important for us to distinguish between the love of God to a fallen world and the love of God to a restored world. God is love and he loves his creation. His love is demonstrated to us in this fallen world. Thank God that he is still love in the midst of this fallen, sin filled world. But keep in mind that God has a new heaven and a new earth coming wherein dwells righteousness. God will correct all wrongs and make every crooked thing straight.

In this fallen world God has given animals to be the food, servants, and companions of mankind. I admit that I enjoy eating hamburgers, chicken, and tuna fish. And I thank and praise God for providing this food for me to eat.

I also love cats. I think them to be the perfect companions and they are low maintenance because of their independence. My sister brought me a tiny kitten last Friday that she found at the market where she works. He is the offspring of wild cats and was completely afraid of me when he first arrived. I have kept him locked up in my room and he sleeps in there with me. He is already litter box trained and with the help of Ben Ben, my other cat, we have him quite tame now. In fact he is fast asleep on my stomach as I type this article on my computer.

He is all black with green eyes and is quite adorable. I have dubbed him "Billy The Kid", just Billy for short. OK, I openly admit that I already love this little creature. It was love at first sight if you want to know.

Anyways Billy developed a severe chest cold last night. I thought he was just choking on something, but today as I held him I could tell that it was wheezing from his chest cavity. It was loud and sounded awful. I of course was concerned and felt compassion towards him as any good dad would.

I placed my left hand on him and prayed for Father to heal him in Jesus' name. Billy hasn't made a sound since. He was miraculously healed by the power of God. He took a good long nap afterwards and woke up with an appetite. I think he knows that I helped him because he has grown closer to me already.

You see God does love animals. In this fallen world he needs us to help look out for their safety. I have discovered that it is very easy to get animals healed. I can't remember a time when I laid hands on an animal and prayed for them when they didn't immediately get healed. So don't blame God for the plight of animals or for people either. You can do something about it.

You and I are the caretakers of this fallen world. Don't you think it is about time that we get busy and make positive changes to the people and the animals of this world?
