Lifelong Custom
by PamFord Davis

" he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime (Daniel 6:10b KJV)."

This Thanksgiving Day, most Americans will follow the traditions of their families. If mother or grandmother made cornbread stuffing, they will likely do the same. Since dad carved the turkey at the dining room table, his son will too. Did he offer up thanks with a heartfelt prayer?

Daniel is a great role model. He made prayer and thanksgiving a daily habit, his lifelong custom.

In the seclusion of his room, Daniel prayed three times a day.

Thanksgiving was a part of daily living.

How did that become such an integral part of his life?

It would not have been easy for Daniel to live by his convictions in a foreign-pagan land. How interesting it would be to delve into his earlier years

I suspect he had consistent instruction from his parents.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6 KJV)."
