A Fallen Sparrow
by Colan Hiatt

I saw it there beside the road
The lifeless form of a little bird
I knew not the cause of it's demise
Or just when, - - it occurred

The first thing that came to my mind
Were words that Jesus did declare
Each one that fell, He knew about
Of every detail, - God is aware

I marvel at the contrast He used
To depict how much He cares
The magnitude of love He ascribed
On our heads, He counts every hair

To the one who is wayward and alone
And feels that no one cares
He extends, outstretched arms
Your heavy burden, He seeks to share

"Ye are valued more than many sparrows"
And He is standing outside the door
Simple, - sincere childlike faith
Will give acceptance, to all who implore

The magnitude of unbounded love
Was depicted by a little bird
It's a message He would have us hear
The greatest love story, ever heard
